Missouri City

The Project

ERP Implementation Project Management Oversight/Project “Rescue”
This City has a population of approximately 120,000 with 1,100 employees, and services that include Police, Fire, Public Works, Parks/Recreation, and Utilities.
The City had selected an ERP solution a few years prior to engaging SoftResources, and at the time was around three years into its ERP implementation. Only around 75% of the modules had been implemented, and the project had stalled. This City turned to SoftResources to help determine why the project had partially failed, and what it would take to get the new ERP solution fully implemented. The goals of the engagement were as follows:
  • Understand the history and current status in detail of the existing ERP implementation
  • Determine an inventory of key issues
  • Provide resource recommendations
  • Build a roadmap to successful completion of the implementation
  • Develop a realistic project timeline
  • Provide high level management and project oversight through project completion
SoftResources helped the City to successfully restart and then complete the project:
  • Established the project teams and team members
  • Identified subject matter experts and other stakeholders to be interviewed
  • Conducted interviews with functional system stakeholders
  • Identified non-system issues that hindered the original implementation, and mitigated those issues
  • Documented key requirements that support future state vision for the ERP solution at the City
  • Conducted fit/gap analysis with the chosen ERP solution
  • Identified gaps that could not be overcome with the current ERP system and went to market to find software to address those shortcomings
  • Selected a solution to fill ERP system functional gaps
  • Managed to the project plan/roadmap and timeline
  • Successfully completed the ERP implementation
